Church History

In October, 1978, the church began as Sangaree Baptist Mission with eight residents of Sangaree meeting in their homes each Sunday.

The Mission's first recorded Sunday School began in January, 1979, with twelve in attendance.

In December, 1979, realizing the potential and acting further on their vision for planting a new church, First Baptist Church  Moncks Corner purchased the land on which the church currently stands and installed the Rev. Hal West Jr. as Sangaree Baptist Mission’s part-time pastor.

The Mission’s next two years were fruit bearing years. They experienced growth, the maturing of the body, and installed qualified leaders; the outcome of strong discipleship and diligence towards evangelism. A direct result of their gains was a call to the Rev. Tommy Thompson Sr. to serve as its first full-time pastor.

In December, 1981, Reverend Thompson accepted that call and became the Mission’s pastor.

On June 27, 1982, the Mission became an autonomous church, and with the completion of its current worship center, was constituted as Sangaree Baptist Church. Pastor Thompson’s vision for a community daycare and Christian school became a reality in August, 1985 with the addition of Sangaree Baptist Daycare and School. It was the decision of the church to change the name to Sangaree Christian Fellowship in 2003.

On February, 7, 2010, after 29 years of faithful service to God and His church, Reverend Thompson retired as the pastor of Sangaree Christian Fellowship. He leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness to those he ministered to and tireless preaching of the Gospel.

Additionally, on February 7, 2010, Sangaree Christian Fellowship extended a call to the Reverend “Jim” Moore, then Associate Pastor, as their Pastor. Reverend Moore accepted that call and now serves as the church’s pastor. Pastor Moore’s heart is for the maturing of the body, renewing the call for each member of the body’s responsibility towards personal evangelism, the dynamic worship of an amazing and  Holy God, and outreach to the Sangaree Community and outlying areas.

The priorities and challenges ahead for the church are, outreach and evangelism, sound Bible study and discipleship, and the completion of its new worship center and family life center.
